Space Racer is a simple concept. It is a cross between Break Out, Arkanoid, Tetris and raceing. Where players move either a ball or a ship, trying to avoid shapes and maneuver their way through different objects. While trying to make it to the finish line before a computer or human controlled opponent.
However the actual game play has much more to it. Space Racer takes only seconds to learn, but a life time to master. With an endless amount of tracks.
In Space Racer players gain speed by bouncing off of blocks, destroying blocks or getting power ups. However once a player bounces off of a block, the only way to reverse their direction is to bounce off another block.
But there is a catch to Space Racer, players are constantly loosing speed. This means that players have to find the right combination of bouncing off of blocks to keep their speed up, while still trying to move forward.
Space Racer has 10 different racing modes. Each mode has an unlimited number of tracks, which are made up of shapes, objects, and blocks. Each time a player starts a new race, they get a new track, which the computer makes by choosing different shapes, and over 100 different objects.
Space Racer offers a split screen, so two players can race against each other, or you can keep an eye on the computer.
Space Racer has a unique feature were players can set a target time, to any of the top 10 times for each racing mode. This means that the computer opponent will get within 1 second of the target time.
Space Racer saves the top 10 times for each racing mode, and the track in which the top time was obtained with. Space Racer offers a special feature were players can challenge any of the top times.
This lets players play the exact same track in which the time was obtained. Then if a player beats the original time, they get to steal that high score.
Space Racer also has 8 power ups, which gives players extra speed, more turbo, super steering, ghost power, Brick Buster power and more.
